The timeline is designed as a guided journey through the evolution of crowd movement during the event, with a separate timeline for northbound and southbound movement
Each timeline follows the same recorded section of Calle Miguelete, allowing users to explore how movement and occupancy develop in each direction over time.
Each node represents a specific moment in the recording and provides a cumulative visualisation of the crowd at that stage. The sequence allows users to trace how each directional flow changes as occupancy increases.
By moving through the timeline, users can identify the main behavioural states of each flow and select individual moments for further analysis. Each node therefore acts as an entry point into a more detailed view of the crowd dynamics captured at that stage.
Each timeline node can be explored in greater detail through the 15-Second Intervals view.
The cumulative visualisation shown in the timeline is built from a sequence of 15-second intervals, which can be examined individually to reveal how movement develops within that moment.
The detailed view begins with the individual 15-second intervals that make up the cumulative visualisation. Below them, the cumulative visualisation of the opposing flow is displayed, together with a direct button that allows users to access the opposing flow for the same interval, enabling a clear comparison of how both directions interact within the same space.
Where relevant, specifically for the 7:00–8:00 minute interval (before the mascletà), 1:34:22–1:35:22 (during the mascletà), and 2:12:22–2:13:34 (after the mascletà), trajectory visualisations are also included, revealing pedestrian trajectories and offering an interpretation of the speed at which routes are completed and the movement patterns involved.
From each detailed view, users can navigate directly to the previous or next interval, or return to the main overview. This layered structure allows users to move from the general overview provided by the timeline to increasingly detailed representations of crowd behaviour.
Beyond the chronological journey provided by the timeline, this section, located at the end of the timeline, allows users to explore the recorded observations per interval through a series of thematic filters
Users can identify specific crowd states and behavioural phenomena, and distinguish flow entries by direction, northbound or southbound. This taxonomy makes it possible to explore how different behaviours emerge under specific conditions and at different moments of the event
Specifically, the observations can be filtered according to the following categories:
- Direction: Northbound, Southbound
- Phase: Pre-event, Event, Post-event
- Crowd State: Low density, Moderate density, High density, Near saturation
- Phenomena: Corner hugging, Diagonal lane incorporation, Directional predominance, Lane dissolution, Lane formation, Restricted mobility, River-like configuration
